The burning issues affecting Arab countries and the ongoing diplomatic ballet over the Palestinian question in the United Nations were among the key issues discussed between Arab League Ambassador to France Nassif Hitti and AAPA members over breakfast at the Procope Oct. 4. Hitti, a veteran diplomat and a multicultural academic, shed light on the complicated and often labyrinthine mechanisms which grind away behind the UN curtains. He also provided insight into how Arabs view developments in their own back yard, helped us understand the spark behind the “Arab Spring” and give pointers as to where this might be going. Members were also treated to Hitti’s diverse views on several major players in theMiddle Eastand how his organization is coping with the major transitions in many Arab League States.
