This July, the AAPA had the honor of being invited to the residence of Canada’s Ambassador to France, Nathalie Drouin, for our annual Summer Gala. Ambassador Drouin was until recently national security advisor to Mark Carney.
We had a wonderful evening at the residence, where we discussed press freedom, democracy, soft power, Leonard Cohen, and the Eurovision Song Contest over delicious Canadian food – including lobster rolls and bison burgers.
In a time of democratic erosion and historic threats to journalists, Ambassador Drouin emphasized that Canada remains committed to press freedom, which is enshrined in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
